This Earth Day, we’re taking a moment to reflect on what we’ve done to encourage sustainability, and how we plan to further our efforts in the future.

Since the introduction of our paperless product information path, we have seen a great reduction in environmental impact. In 2021, we transitioned to paperless catalogs, replacing them with a digital flipbook easily accessed online. In 2022, we replaced all paper product manuals with digital versions accessed via a QR code on the product directly. These steps have resulted in massive ecological savings, saving over 55,000 lbs of paper!

In addition to our paperless product information path, we have implemented a multitude of measures in our warehouse and offices to reduce environmental impact and improve our employee’s well-being. We recently replaced our standard water coolers with new water cooler and bottle filling stations, minimizing dependency on disposable plastic bottles and giving access to clean, filtered water at all times. Additionally, the implementation of a 3-day in office work requirement has resulted in saving both time and greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating the commute, estimating an annual savings of about 65,195 lbs of CO2!

Last year, we expanded our efforts in sustainability by starting the We Care Initiative. For this initiative, we put forth a plan on how we will revise the entire product development process to consider environmental impacts. These include steps to ensure our products are reusable, able to fulfill multiple functions to balance plastic use, and are recyclable at the end of their life. In addition, we are planning to completely phase out plastic packaging materials by 2028. These steps will help reduce the environmental impact at all stages of our product’s life.

Although we’ve taken great strides in our journey towards sustainability and social responsibility, we still have a long way to go. Heathrow Scientific will continue to evolve and encompass an even broader scope of new programs and action.
